"Cayana is a celebration of prints on all surfaces."
Nice to meet you
I'm Ana, a French Brazilian surface print designer, creative entrepreneur and mother to a beautiful boy named Leo. I live and create my artwork in London but I'm originally from Manaus, the largest city in the Brazilian Amazon. Both cities were key influences to my designs as my love for print design started when I moved to London 11 years ago and a lot of my work is nature related and conversational.
My story...
When moving here, I dropped out of the advertising world and started studying surface print design inspired by William Morris, Liberty and Cath Kidston's prints. I was fascinated by the possibility of having my designs printed onto different products and that became my ultimate goal.
I have always loved drawing and making things since I was little girl, however, my career as a print designer started a little before my son Leo was born.
I created prints for small Brazilian brands whilst my baby boy was asleep and with time I started creating prints for English studios such as Jack Jones designs and Peach Prints. Juggling motherhood and work was never an easy task but I have managed to be part of some truly incredible collaborations with Stickdecor x Le pink collective, the Canadian brand Wrappr and Sephora USA.
Seeing my designs coming to life on different products from fashion to wallpaper has always filled me with happiness. This is when the idea of creating my own range of products, made to inspire and bring joy into peoples homes and lives came to me. And here we are! Welcome to Cayana!
The creative process
I love illustrating by hand and taking the time to experiment. I combine both traditional illustrative practices by hand and the use of digital mediums, all my scanned work is used to create compositions and textile repeats on the computer.
My drawings, paintings and pattern designs are a culmination of time researching nature and vintage elements and my love for surrealism. New places, travels and objects are translated through my imagination in the studio, into multiple patterns and compositions.
